I was really glad to get out of the house on Monday for our coffee morning, having been stuck indoors all through Christmas. Even with the rain pouring down it was good to have a different view to look at and people to talk to. Great to see so many there and with partners as well – result a very sociable Monday morning.
View through a window
I hope you’ve all had time to have a look at the programme and note the monthly challenges, the January one is ‘View through a window’. This can be any medium – any window, any view – use your imagination! The idea is to work on this idea during January then in February bring in your results for all to see and pick a winner. Just thought this would make a change – you can still work on your own pictures each week or there will be suggestions for subjects as usual if you’re stuck for inspiration.
Still life table
This Friday (8th) will see a changed seating layout. There will be a set of tables just to your right as you come into the hall, which will be reserved for those wishing to practice their drawing skills. Jeremy is kindly providing a simple ‘still life’ subject. Do feel free to drop in and out of these practical sessions throughout the afternoon. There should still be plenty of seating/tables around to seat you all but perhaps not in your ‘usual’ place. Go on give it a try – sit somewhere new and share ideas with different members. It is intended, if popular, to continue these practice drawing skills throughout the coming year.
Bring pictures for Golf Club
If you wish to exhibit at Seaford Head Golf Club this coming month, please bring your pictures in for selection. They should be ready to hang and preferably of local interest.
Society for all artists
Having just received my copy of the latest S.A.A. (Society for all artists) catalogue and magazine is anyone interested in joining the society? They do have a very good range of painting goodies for sale as well as ideas and tutorials. The joining fee at the moment is £29.50 per year which buys you discounted prices on paints and papers etc. plus free postage and packaging. Their service is very good with deliveries only taking about 3 days. I find it costs me less to buy from them than going to a regular art shop as I can stop my impulse buying and only purchase what I really want – I’m sure you all know what I mean!
Thank you from Brenda Savidge
I received an email from Brenda, Bill’s wife, last night asking me to thank you all for your kind thoughts in the memory book. It was much appreciated. For those of us who attended the Thanksgiving Service just before Christmas, we were made very aware of the loss felt by so many people by his sad death. I am hoping that very shortly we can arrange a retrospective exhibition of Bill’s paintings (at the Golf Club) in his memory.
One last reminder – for those who haven’t yet paid their subscriptions – please bring your £35 cheques, made out to Seaford Art Club, or cash and pass to Marion on Friday.
Looking forward to seeing you all on Friday ...Anne
