Sketches not photos
Friday’s (22nd May) meeting subject is ‘Paint Seaford Subjects’ from sketches not photos. This will be a great opportunity to use your outdoor sketches rather than copying photos. I must admit I find it hard to sketch then work up a painting but I know I should practice so this will give me a good opportunity.
Getting in the frame
I know many of you found Janet’s talk last week on framing techniques useful, should you wish to contact her and didn’t pick up a card, her telephone number is 01323 767963 and her website is www.mcgowan-artist-framer.com. She has offered to come again and bring frames and mounts for sale, so we’ll arrange that for early next year. Her advice to restrict your paintings to standard frame sizes is something I always try for as it can cut down the costs of mounting & framing considerably allowing use of up to date frames from multiples like ESK or The Range. By the way several people asked about buying the cord for hanging pictures and just by chance I spotted reels of different sizes available by the meter from the hardware shop on the main road in Seaford, probably cheaper than buying it from B&Q!
Pop into the Pop Up
Don’t forget the Pop Up group have their show on this week – ‘5 artists and a dog’ at The Crypt, do go along if you have the time, their postcard competition is still open and worth entering.
SAA Sketch book challenge
Speaking of competitions we are getting some superb work in our sketch book entry for the SAA competition. Judging by our high standards we should have a good chance of winning a prize. If you haven’t taken part yet and would like to, speak to Pam Carstairs or Daryl Cogavin at Friday’s meeting.
Club Annual Show
I have now sent out all the entry forms for our annual show. Those of you who weren’t at last Friday’s meeting, I’ve put the forms in the post to you (2nd class to save money). If you haven’t received them by Friday I will have a few spares available at the meeting.
Some of the ‘rules’ have seen slight changes so do please read them before entering your work.
Just a reminder the date for the return of entry forms and hanging charges MUST be with me by Friday June 12th.
Dulwich trip ...your money is needed now
Coach money for the Dulwich trip can be given to me now, the price for the coach trip will have to be £22 per person, cheques to be made out to Seaford Art Club please. (Cash is acceptable!) Money must be with me by 21st June latest.
