The committee hope you have all enjoyed the changes and additions to club programme during 2014. We realise we can’t please everyone but we have tried our best. We trust you will find the 2015 programme even better thanks to all of you who have contributed ideas for events and activities.
Over the past few years the club has regained its popularity going from strength to strength. We started this year from a sound basis driven by the previous committee, their ideas and our outgoing Chair Janice Dennington.
It is very difficult to help create the right balance at meetings between serious art and social interaction. I hope, judging by our increased attendance at meetings and the new coffee mornings at the Seaford Yacht Club this year (next one is January 6th), we have got just about the right balance. However, I am sure members will let us know if we haven’t.
This year we celebrated our 60th aniversary with a lunch at the Seaford Golf Club which proved to be a very popular venue. And we are visiting this venue again early in Spring for a ‘Spring Lunch (6th March, so please make a date in your diary)’.
Annual Art Show
For our Annual Art Show in 2014 we dared to take over the whole of the Crypt. We included for the first time the sale of gift cards, a themed exhibition area and decided to charge exhibitors just a hanging fee at a slightly increased rate whilst dispensing with the normal club commission charges. This proved popular and made life easier sorting out payments to artists etc. Thanks to Bill Bovington and Mike Harrison for each donating pictures for the raffle.
Our outdoor summer programme for 2014 included some new venues and we were blessed with some good weather. A change from last previous years was to have meetings available at the ‘Downs’ on alternative weeks when we weren’t painting outdoors. Most of these in general were well attended. So, for those of you who prefer painting indoors or can’t make the venues, for 2015 we plan to try make the ‘Downs’ venue available every Friday during the summer. It should also solve the problem of what to do if the weather looks unfavourable.
Fees Due for 2015
I am glad to say all this has been achieved without increasing our annual membership charges of £30. Our current fees have remained the same for several years now. In 2014 the committee made the decision to increase the membership slightly which will keep our funds buoyant. On the subject of membership, fees, they are due first of January. Please can I ask you all to pay promptly (by cheque made out to Seaford Art Club) as this makes the administration much easier for our treasurer Marion.
AGM 20th February 2014
Our AGM is on the 20th February and as we did last year we will try to keep this simple and brief. Please do your best to attend, the meetings are always fairly informal and we really value your input. And if we can keep it brief, it will be followed by a talk on Toulouse-Lautrec by Bill Savidge.
This leaves me to thank all our members for helping to make our club events friendly and enjoyable occasions. And also to say a special thanks to Marion Feelove for sorting out and keeping track of our finances and to Anne Benson our secretary who has again this year worked tirelessly to make our club work so well and kept us in touch with what’s going on.
Wishing you a super artistic 2015... Jeremy Sales (Chair).
