PAINTING Outdoors - the Long House, West Dean

Right who was it said we’ve had enough rain?  It’s so hot out there and it’s only 10o’clock. (that’s only so you can be surprised that I’m up that early!)  I’d forgotten that a paddling pool with a few inches of water can be so much fun!

David Bomberg visit
Right on with the club’s business.  Last Friday 10  of us went to the Towner Gallery in Eastbourne and were fortunate to have been given a brief talk on the life of their current featured artist, David Bomberg.  The talk was by the General Manager, Niamh Pearce, who stepped into the breach when the assistant curator went off sick.  What a difference that made to the visit and I am sure we can arrange similar talks should we go in the future.  If you haven’t been to see the exhibition yet, do try and visit it, to be able to get up close (and personal) to the paintings really gave an insight into his work. Even if you don’t ‘like’ his work his landscapes are well worth a look. AND it’s FREE!

Painting outdoors The Long House’ Westdean
This Friday the out door painters will be going to ‘The Long House’ in Westdean, a lovely garden with sculptures which is normally only open for the Nation Garden Scheme open days.  The owners normally charge £5 per person to visit, so could you have your contributions to hand. There is a link to a map on our website (click here for link), but briefly from the A259 towards Eastbourne, cross the Exeat bridge and take the next left onto Littlington Road. Then a right turn into The Lane. Follow The Lane past the Church on your right until the road bears to the right. There is a sign here to the Long House. Park safely where you can there isn’t much parking available. If anyone wants to share a ride get in touch with me asap.  Don’t miss this chance for a private view of the garden.  Last year we were able to use the conservatory if it rains.
If the weather really deserts us we can meet up as usual at The Downs LC.

Summer challenge
Don’t forget to work on your summer challenge – Abstract - you have till October 7th.
The next change of paintings for the Golf Club will be on July 29th.  Get selecting now – you can have shown your pictures before (but perhaps not too recently).  Pleased to tell you that a picture by Linda Wells has been sold from the display.
