...Although the manager is happy for us to hang all sorts of paintings, we do still have to say ‘no portraits’ but the subjects can include out of area views, (so not limited to local views). No sales recently I’m afraid, but I know visitors enjoy seeing our work. This month we are also pleased to show the winning entry from the Seaford Rotary Club’s Young Artist competition. The picture was on the theme of ‘Life around us’ and is by Holly Harman – someone to watch in the future?
I will go to the Downs LC on Friday, at some point in the afternoon, to return paintings hung last month at the Golf Club.
Painting outdoors
Friday 1st July, sees the start of our Out & About programme. Do join us even if you’ve never tried painting outdoors before- it can be fun. If you limit your equipment to a few colours, or just pencils or charcoal , work on an easel or you lap, with your preferred paper/canvas and bring along a folding chair, you could find working outdoors both liberating and terrifying – but it does get easier the more often you try.
The first location is Piddinghoe Church and the river. For those who don’t know the area well, Piddinghoe is on the C7 road from Newhaven to Lewes. Take the right hand fork , Cedarwell Close, signposted to Piddinghoe, This is a narrow bending road but not very far along you will see the sign for the Church on your right. There is a car park in front of the Church and you can walk down to the Ouse following the path round the Church. (Click here for Map reference). If the weather is poor, the Downs LC hall is available every week as usual for members not wishing to work outdoors.
Ightham Mote painting trip
Please remember to pay for your trip to Ightham Mote on September 22nd. (It should have dried out by September!). Places will only be secured on payment. Money can be given to Jan Firbank, Nina Gatward, Marion Freelove or me.
The new programme
By now all members should have received the new programme and the papers for the exhibition. Please note exhibition entries must be with me by 12th August 2016, Not such a long way off now.
£1000 Donation in memory of Bill Brinkly
Many of you I know will remember Bill Brinkley who sadly passed away earlier this year. His widow, Mavis, visited our meeting last Friday and presented the club with a cheque for £1000 in his memory. Once we have recovered from the shock and delight of such a large donation the committee will decide how to use the money to celebrate Bill’s memory. If you have any suggestions do please let one of the committee know.
Next coffee morning
Don’t forget our next coffee morning will be on July 4th, 10-12 at Seaford Head Golf Club – all welcome.
