I went for a lovely walk last Sunday with my son, over from Seaford Head to Cuckmere Haven via Hope Gap. He with his camera and you’ll be pleased to know I with a SKETCHBOOK. Didn’t do too many sketches as I was a bit out of breath most of the way and all the seats were occupied – well that’s my excuse anyway. Looks like we may have a few more beautiful autumn days which could give us all the opportunity to get out and sketch. I look forward to seeing some results soon.
Sad loss of long standing member James McLaren
On a sad note it is with regret I have to announce the sad news that long standing member and former club treasurer James McLaren passed away peacefully last Friday. Both James and his wife have both been members, joining in the early eighties.
Unfortunately James had been too ill to attend much over the past few years, so many current members may not have known him. If you attended the club's both anniversary in 2014 , James helped cut the cake (see image).
Thank you to both our models last week. Frank Carstairs and Daryl, it’s not easy sitting still for any length of time (as well I now know!) and they did extremely well for us as portrait models.
Draw without looking at you work
This week our subject is ‘Draw without looking at you work’ another extension of the ‘loosen up’ session. You may have done it before but do have a go even if for only a few minutes, you may be surprised at the outcome.
Also this week...
...we’ll have a BRING AND BUY sale – so unwanted/surplus art materials - paints; pallets; paper; frames;mounts; easels can all be bought in for sale. Any money received may be donated to the club, your favourite charity or kept for yourself. Don’t forget to bring some change as well.
I will also be collecting the hanging fees (£1 per picture) for those showing at the Golf Club and you may collect your paintings from the last exhibition there.
Changes in the room
There will be some changes in the room layout shortly. This is so that those wishing to try different techniques or subjects can get together for ideas and support. Please be prepared to move from your regular seat position if necessary.
New Shop in town
Have you seen the New Shop in town – SOBIZZARE has opened as a ‘pop up’ museum/art gallery on Sutton Park Road, next to Dominos. They are inviting artists/crafts people to show and sell their work in the shop which will only be open Friday/Saturdays up to Christmas. Their commission on sales is 20%. They have a Facebook page at Sobizarre if you want to have a look.
Right, that’s enough from me so see you all Friday, Anne.
