Hope you enjoyed the demonstration by Christine Hopkins last Friday (see slide show above), even those of you who are not really interested in mixed media. I know I learnt a lot of new techniques which encourage me to have another ‘go’.
Thank you for the great turnout as well, it always helps if our demos are well attended (35 including guests).
This Friday we have an opportunity to put some of her ideas into practice using the subject ‘Bonfire & Fireworks’. Please don’t bring any bonfires or fireworks into the Downs – they might not be too happy with us letting them off! Just use your imagination…Anne
Local Exhibitions worth visiting
Saturday saw some of us going to the opening of the Eastbourne Group of Artists’ exhibition at The Birley Centre in Eastbourne. Well worth going, with some lovely work on show. Maureen Black & Margaret Prentis amongst others all have work on show. The exhibition is open every weekend 11am – 4pm until 14th December (not open during the week).
Also in Eastbourne
Also in Eastbourne, the Society of Eastbourne Artists are holding their exhibition on Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th November (10 - 4pm) at Eastbourne Town Hall. The group are supporting ‘Care for the Carers’ and the official opening will be by the Mayor of Eastbourne Cllr. Janet Coles at 11am on the 15th. Mary Plant is amongst the exhibitors.
Old Town Hall — Drop In Café
Jane Gaylor and Jan Norman have a selection of their paintings, prints, cards & bookmarks (ideal for Christmas presents) on show from 11th November to 8th December at St James Trust (Old Town Hall) in Seaford (just round the corner from The Crypt gallery). Benefit the charity by stopping for a great cup of tea or coffee (in real cups and saucers), whilst you browse the fine pictures on show.
The Crypt Gallery
A little forward notice of ‘Christmas Arts & Crafts’ at The Crypt Gallery from 22nd to 30th November, open daily 10.30 – 4.30 (except Sunday 11.00- 4.30).
Slide show below: The mixed media demonstration by Christine Hopkins.
This week’s meeting starts our November programme with our first visiting (paid) demonstration of the year on Friday November 7th. Christine Hopkins will be demonstrating ‘mixed media’ and I am sure looking at her work we will be encouraged to have a go – with a view to next week’s session which is ‘Fireworks and Bonfire’. If you’d like to look at some of Christine’s work before Friday her website is http://www.christinehopkins.co.uk
The room will be set up for speaker and demo and there will be no tables out for painting, as is usual when we have a visiting speaker. If you have any friends (or other halves) who might like to join us for the afternoon, do invite them, there is a small charge for non-members of £1 each, (no charge for members).
The Big Draw Animation — so refreshing
Take a look at a 'Utube' animation showing what was achieved at the Big Draw Event at the Arts@thecrypt the other week. Try this link... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2QcAzJ1D00
Coffee morning at the Yacht Club
Despite ‘Road Closed’ signs, the wind and the rain on the seafront a good number turned up for our monthly coffee morning. I (Anne) was one of those who believed the whole road was closed and turned round and went home. I hate missing these extra social meetings and it makes me more determined to join in on the next one (on December 1st) come hell or high water. (That might be appropriate as we meet at the yacht club!).
